Fire service saves 22 shops in Kwara inferno

The Kwara State Fire Service has stated that it saved 22 rooms, including a pharmacy and provision stores, from being destroyed by a fire that broke out at the Adeta Roundabout area in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State in the early hours of Saturday.

The Fire Service, which responded to the fire outbreak at Adeta at about 2:39 a.m. on Saturday, confirmed that only three of the 25 shops were damaged by the fire.

It was reported that the shops, which sold soft drinks and alcohol, were affected by the fire.

According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire was caused by a power surge in the area.
In a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity for the service, Hassan Adekunle, he said, “In the early hours of Saturday, 9th November 2024, at 02:39 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service promptly responded to a fire outbreak at Adeta Roundabout, Ilorin.
“Upon arrival, they found a block of about 25 shops engulfed in flames. Thanks to the swift action and bravery of the Kwara State Fire Service officers, only three shops suffered damage, including a shop selling soft drinks and alcohol.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a power surge.”
Adekunle said that the Director of the State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, expressed sympathy for the affected shop owners and prayed for the restoration of their losses.

He also urged the public to prioritise safety and ensure that all electrical appliances are unplugged when not in use.
